Overview
MasTec is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for operating various types of light construction equipment such as compact loaders, skid steers, backhoes, mini excavators, <12k forklifts, riding compactors, tractors, rollers, and water trucks to excavate, move, and grade materials safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment with a strong understanding of equipment functions, navigation, and safety.

Excavate land surfaces, build level or extreme terrain, and perform trenching with OSHA-compliant slopes.

Drive and maneuver equipment to remove topsoil, vegetation, rocks, and to distribute or level terrain.

Load dirt, stone, materials, and equipment onto trucks.

Coordinate machine actions with crew members using hand or audio signals.

Conduct daily inspections and perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, and oiling.

Accurately complete maintenance reports.

Travel to different jobsites on limited notice when required.

Communicate clearly and follow safety regulations and company procedures.

Perform additional duties as assigned by Superintendent or Foreman.
Qualifications
Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

1–3 years of related experience and/or training in heavy equipment operation.

Minimum 1 year of proven heavy equipment operation experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of MIC Health & Safety programs and OSHA regulations.

Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to participate in daily safety meetings.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division with units of weight, measurement, and volume).

Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to meet accuracy standards and follow set procedures.

Physically able to perform manual tasks and work in outdoor environments.
