Equipment Trainer – Job Overview

The Equipment Trainer is responsible for training and certifying employees as qualified equipment operators in a warehouse setting. This role involves conducting training sessions, administering written and hands-on evaluations, and ensuring all employees operate equipment safely and efficiently. The position requires a strong focus on safety, a deep understanding of PKMS/WMS systems, and a commitment to accuracy in all operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete and pass the equipment trainer/turret operator training course, including both written and hands-on assessments.

  • Obtain and maintain Turret, Reach, Dock Truck, and Electric Pallet Jack certifications.

  • Ensure safe handling of all warehouse equipment at all times.

  • Adhere to operating guidelines and safety protocols related to equipment usage.

  • Ensure proper pallet placement within racks while maintaining a 6-inch flue space.

  • Meet or exceed the minimum KPI standards (PPH pallets per hour productivity) after an appropriate training period.

  • Perform tasks accurately and efficiently, both physically and systematically.

  • Log in to the assigned tasking group under the correct credentials.

  • Conduct operator evaluations and certifications.

  • Provide daily safety reminders and enforce OSHA regulations.

  • Facilitate monthly OSHA training sessions and maintain accurate records.

  • Perform weekly facility housekeeping audits and report findings.

  • Validate daily audits in the battery changing area.

  • Provide hands-on training for new hires on equipment usage.

  • Lead Safety Committee Meetings twice a month to discuss safety concerns from each department.

  • Ensure monthly inspections of harnesses, lanyards, fire extinguishers, lighting, fans, and other safety equipment.

  • Train and certify employees on Baler/Compactor operations.

  • Conduct pre-screenings for equipment operators in collaboration with HR.

  • Schedule Triennial certification training.

  • Maintain and update the Equipment Training Matrix spreadsheet and share it with management.

  • Keep data files and driver documentation updated, including certification cards.

  • Track day-to-day record keeping related to training and safety.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the safety training program.

  • Oversee PITCO re-certifications, near-miss reports, and additional training requirements for drivers.

  • Issue replacement certification cards when necessary.

  • Conduct weekly facility safety evaluations to identify improvement areas.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.

  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

  • Certified on all warehouse equipment.

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and providing daily training sessions.

  • Certified in:

    • Trainer certification

    • Yard spotter certification

    • Battery changer certification

    • TSP 6000, SP 3000, RR/RD 5500, RC 3000, FC/FP 4000, SC 3000, PE 4000 certifications

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods.

  • Minimal bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, and crouching.

  • Comfortable working at heights of up to 40 feet.

  • Capable of lifting/pulling up to 50 lbs.

  • Willingness to work in varying facility conditions, including:

    • Exposure to different weather conditions and temperatures.

    • High noise levels.

    • Frequent exposure to dust and moving machinery.

    • Constant vibration from equipment.

Equipment & Technology Used

  • Electric Pallet Jack, Cherry Picker, Sit/Stand Up Forklift, Turret Operator.

  • Computer, printer, and scanner.
