About the Role
World Relief Sacramento is seeking a compassionate ESL Specialist Instructor to teach preliterate refugee women English, numeracy, and basic literacy skills. The instructor co-teaches with another ESL instructor and partners with caseworkers to provide a holistic program that supports language acquisition, cultural integration, and self-sufficiency. Instruction is delivered on Zoom, using breakout rooms, and includes supervision of volunteers assisting with teaching, assessments, and materials distribution.
Key Responsibilities

Teach oral English, numeracy, and basic literacy using trauma-informed methods.

Utilize and adapt existing ESL curriculum to meet student needs.

Prepare teaching materials (handouts, videos, realia).

Maintain accurate student records, track CASAS levels, and monitor attendance and progress.

Provide basic technology training to clients (phone and laptop use).

Supervise, train, and support volunteers assisting with instruction, assessments, and material distribution.

Assist with client recruitment, enrollment, assessment, and reporting.

Collaborate with teaching staff and caseworkers to ensure holistic support for students.
Job Requirements

Mature Christian faith; alignment with World Relief’s mission, vision, and values.

Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in Education, TESOL, or related field.

Prior teaching experience in ESL, literacy, or adult education.

Fluent in written and spoken English.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, WhatsApp.

Current valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable insured vehicle.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications

Current or in-progress CA Adult Ed Teaching Credential.

Experience teaching pre-literate populations or non-native English speakers.

Ability to manage classrooms and support volunteers.

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
