About the Role

World Relief Sacramento is seeking a compassionate ESL Specialist Instructor to teach preliterate refugee women English, numeracy, and basic literacy skills. The instructor co-teaches with another ESL instructor and partners with caseworkers to provide a holistic program that supports language acquisition, cultural integration, and self-sufficiency. Instruction is delivered on Zoom, using breakout rooms, and includes supervision of volunteers assisting with teaching, assessments, and materials distribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach oral English, numeracy, and basic literacy using trauma-informed methods.

  • Utilize and adapt existing ESL curriculum to meet student needs.

  • Prepare teaching materials (handouts, videos, realia).

  • Maintain accurate student records, track CASAS levels, and monitor attendance and progress.

  • Provide basic technology training to clients (phone and laptop use).

  • Supervise, train, and support volunteers assisting with instruction, assessments, and material distribution.

  • Assist with client recruitment, enrollment, assessment, and reporting.

  • Collaborate with teaching staff and caseworkers to ensure holistic support for students.

Job Requirements

  • Mature Christian faith; alignment with World Relief’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in Education, TESOL, or related field.

  • Prior teaching experience in ESL, literacy, or adult education.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, WhatsApp.

  • Current valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable insured vehicle.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current or in-progress CA Adult Ed Teaching Credential.

  • Experience teaching pre-literate populations or non-native English speakers.

  • Ability to manage classrooms and support volunteers.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Commitment to professionalism and client confidentiality.
