Executive Director – Friends of Aphasia

Friends of Aphasia seeks a dynamic Executive Director (ED) to lead and advance our mission of improving the lives of individuals and families affected by aphasia. The ED will serve as the strategic leader, primary administrator, and public face of the organization, overseeing operations with a focus on financial management, legal compliance, fundraising, human resources, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

  • Guide the organization’s growth and impact, fostering relationships with donors, partners, and community leaders.

  • Represent Friends of Aphasia in public forums and advocacy efforts.

Program Development & Management

  • Oversee the implementation and evaluation of programs to ensure they effectively serve individuals with aphasia and their families.

  • Work with the Clinical Director and volunteers to maintain high-quality, evidence-based services.

Fundraising & Development

  • Lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grants, donor cultivation, corporate sponsorships, and events.

  • Collaborate with the Board to plan and manage fundraising initiatives.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Oversee budget development, financial forecasting, and regulatory compliance.

  • Ensure fiscal integrity, adherence to GAAP practices, and transparent financial reporting.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Manage staff, contractors, volunteers, and interns, fostering a collaborative work environment.

  • Oversee HR functions, including hiring, performance evaluations, and professional development.

Community Outreach & Advocacy

  • Increase awareness of aphasia through community events and media engagement.

  • Expand donor and volunteer bases through outreach and partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, public administration, healthcare, or related field preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit or healthcare-related organization, with a proven track record in fundraising, compliance, and team management.

  • Skills:

    • Strong strategic thinking and leadership abilities.

    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

    • Financial acumen, including budgeting and financial oversight.

    • Passion for Friends of Aphasia’s mission.
