About the Role

We are looking for a highly organised and experienced Finance Administrator to join our team on a part-time basis. This flexible, one-day-a-week role is perfect for someone with a solid background in payroll, bookkeeping, and financial compliance who thrives on accuracy and independence.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process monthly payroll for a small team (currently 9 employees)

  • Maintain accurate payroll records for starters, leavers, and changes

  • Calculate wages, statutory pay (SSP, SMP), deductions, and holiday pay

  • Submit RTI reports to HMRC

  • Manage auto-enrolment and pensions

  • Distribute payslips and annual P60s

  • Resolve payroll-related queries

  • Process team sales commissions

  • Track employee leave balances

Financial Transactions & Bookkeeping

  • Record daily financial activity including sales, receipts, and payments

  • Handle invoicing, accounts payable and receivable

  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements

  • Prepare and process supplier and expense payments

  • Maintain the general ledger

Reporting & Compliance

  • Support monthly financial reports and management accounts

  • Submit VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital

  • Maintain audit-ready financial documentation

  • Ensure full HMRC compliance

Client Billing & Debt Collection

  • Send invoices based on hourly rates, milestones, or retainers

  • Monitor unpaid invoices and follow up by phone, email, or letter

  • Submit small claims via MCOL where necessary

  • Set up and manage payment plans

  • Maintain logs of collections and legal processes

Additional Duties

  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting

  • Liaise with accountants, auditors, and tax advisers

  • Track annual payment renewals and notify the relevant team

  • Handle confidential data with discretion and compliance

Requirements

  • Proven experience in finance administration, payroll, and bookkeeping

  • Strong understanding of HMRC rules and UK tax compliance

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks)

  • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and organisation

  • Commitment to confidentiality and data protection
