Job Summary
The School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) is seeking a detail-oriented Budget, Finance, and Procurement Specialist to provide critical financial support for a medium-to-large, complex department. This position ensures the department’s long-term fiscal stability by overseeing budgeting, purchasing, compliance, and financial reporting activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management: Support day-to-day financial operations by monitoring budgets, reviewing transactions, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Sponsored Research Support: Assist faculty with managing the financial aspects of sponsored research accounts, ensuring compliance with agency and university rules for budgeting, spending, and reporting.

Budget Analysis & Compliance: Prepare projections, prevent over/under-spending, and ensure compliance with all state, federal, and university financial regulations.

Procurement & Purchasing: Manage purchase requests, requisitions, and vendor contracts for sponsored projects, classroom, lab, and departmental needs. Stay current with University, State, and Federal purchasing regulations.

Travel Coordination: Arrange and process faculty and staff travel requests, ensuring compliance with sponsored project and university guidelines.

Collaboration & Training: Partner with faculty, administrators, and staff to achieve financial goals; attend training and professional development to remain current on financial systems and best practices.

Documentation & SOPs: Maintain departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to align with University policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of financial systems, procurement processes, and reconciliation methods.

Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a complex academic environment.

Proficiency in handling confidential data with discretion and integrity.
Working Conditions

Hybrid schedule available after probationary period (remote + on-campus).

Must reside within the DFW Metroplex and be able to report to campus within 24 hours’ notice.

Requires use of a personal computer and standard office equipment.
