Key Responsibilities of a Finance Specialist

Conduct detailed financial evaluations of physicians and physician practices to assess profitability and performance.

Perform comprehensive financial analyses to guide strategic planning and operational improvements.

Prepare and review quarterly physician pay adjustments based on productivity and organizational metrics.

Develop, monitor, and update annual operating budgets in partnership with department leaders.

Present monthly variance analyses comparing actual results to forecasts for clinical operations.

Generate ad hoc financial reports and insights to support executive decision-making.

Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to optimize financial performance.

Maintain compliance with accounting standards, regulatory policies, and internal controls.

Document all financial processes, methodologies, and system improvements for transparency and accuracy.
Qualifications for the Finance Specialist Role

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

3–7 years of experience in healthcare finance, physician practice management, or related disciplines.

Strong understanding of cost accounting, feasibility studies, and pro forma analysis.

Proficiency in Excel, financial modeling, and data analysis tools.

Familiarity with hospital systems, including billing, collections, payroll, and general ledger.

Knowledge of physician clinic operations and healthcare billing processes preferred.
