Key Responsibilities of the Accountant Role

Participate in month-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Support the preparation, review, and submission of financial reports in line with CHRISTUS Health’s standards and accounting principles.

Assist with annual audits by preparing work papers and collaborating with external auditors.

Perform variance analysis to identify and correct discrepancies in financial data.

Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and well-documented.

Contribute to tax and government reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and timely filing.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial data and support strategic initiatives.

Monitor financial indicators and provide actionable insights to management.

Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting standards (GAAP), and company policies.

Stay informed on regulatory updates and changes in healthcare financial reporting standards.
Qualifications for the Accountant Position

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (or 4 years of equivalent experience).

CPA certification and/or MBA preferred.

Minimum 4 years of accounting experience, including month-end closing, variance analysis, audits, and financial reporting.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with healthcare financial management.

Proficiency with financial software systems, Excel, and Word.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Effective communication abilities—both written and verbal.

Experience with joint ventures, partnerships, consolidations, and tax reporting is highly desirable.

Prior work in physician practices or healthcare finance, preferably 5 years in an acute care setting.
