Job Summary

Bupa’s Cromwell Hospital is seeking a proactive and experienced Float Medical Secretary to join our team. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide vital secretarial and administrative support to a range of private consultants during periods of staff absence (e.g., holiday and sickness), ensuring continuity of exceptional service for patients and clinicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, high-quality secretarial services during other secretaries’ absences

  • Act as liaison between consultants and hospital departments, resolving issues in-house

  • Manage all communications – phone, email, and internal correspondence

  • Accurately transcribe and prepare medical reports and letters

  • Generate and send invoices to insurance companies or patients

  • Book theatre slots, consultations, and procedures using accurate coding and systems

  • Coordinate with departments such as pathology, radiology, reservations, and medical records

  • Maintain and update patient records, systems, and documentation

  • Support billing, finance, and typing tasks as needed

  • Ensure patient billing security and documentation is compliant and recorded

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience as a Medical Secretary within private healthcare is essential

  • Knowledge of MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) processes preferred

  • Proficiency with Semble (formerly Heydoc) or similar systems

  • Strong administrative, organisational, and multitasking abilities

  • Excellent communication, telephone, and interpersonal skills

  • Highly IT literate with good time management and prioritisation

  • Ability to work independently and adapt across consultant practices
