About the Role:

Odyssey House School in Wokingham is seeking a qualified and passionate Food Technology Teacher to deliver high-quality teaching to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young learners through engaging lessons, strong pastoral care, and a holistic approach to education.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver engaging Food Technology lessons tailored to students with SEN across various age groups and abilities.

  • Plan, differentiate, and evaluate high-quality lessons aligned with school standards and individual learning plans.

  • Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback through both oral and written assessments.

  • Promote literacy, numeracy, and communication skills through the Food Tech curriculum.

  • Set and assess classwork, coursework, and exams in accordance with school and national expectations.

  • Manage classroom behaviour following the school’s Behaviour for Learning Policy.

  • Maintain a safe, organised, and well-equipped learning environment.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Keep up-to-date records of student progress, behaviour, and lesson plans.

  • Use assessment data to set aspirational targets for all students.

  • Report progress at parent meetings and maintain communication with families and external agencies as needed.

Pastoral & Safeguarding Duties

  • Act as a form tutor, providing daily pastoral support.

  • Monitor attendance, wellbeing, and personal development.

  • Support students with social communication challenges and behavioural needs.

  • Comply with safeguarding responsibilities as outlined in DfE’s ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and ‘The Prevent Duty.’

Professional Expectations

  • Liaise with SENCO, parents, therapists, and other professionals to ensure holistic support.

  • Attend staff meetings, CPD sessions, and contribute to a collaborative school culture.

  • Supervise Learning Mentors supporting your students.

  • Maintain a professional and positive approach when interacting with pupils, staff, and families.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Degree in Food Technology or related subject

  • Experience working with students with SEN

  • Strong organisational, communication, and classroom management skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education

Desirable:

  • Experience in therapeutic or SEMH settings

  • Familiarity with EHCPs and multi-agency support processes

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

  • Daytime hours only (No weekends)

  • Location: On-site (Wokingham)
