Key Responsibilities

Provide virtual direct instruction to PreK–12 students with visual impairments in line with IEP goals

Collaborate with general and special education staff to adapt instructional materials for accessibility

Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments virtually

Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and progress reports per Ohio Department of Education guidelines
-
Assist with the selection and use of assistive technology, including screen readers, braille devices, and magnification tools
-
Provide consultation and support to families, caregivers, and school personnel
-
Ensure compliance with IDEA, ADA, and state special education regulations
-
Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team meetings via video conferencing

Maintain accurate records and documentation through secure digital platforms
Qualifications
Required:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field

Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist: Visually Impaired (P-12) teaching license
-
Experience in virtual instruction or willingness to learn remote platforms

Familiarity with braille (UEB), Nemeth Code, and accessible educational materials
Preferred:

Certification in Orientation and Mobility (COMS)

Experience with virtual IEP platforms (e.g., ProgressBook, IEP Anywhere)

Proficiency with assistive technologies like JAWS, VoiceOver, NVDA, and refreshable braille displays
