Fully Remote Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Ohio

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide virtual direct instruction to PreK–12 students with visual impairments in line with IEP goals

  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to adapt instructional materials for accessibility

  • Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments virtually

  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and progress reports per Ohio Department of Education guidelines

  • Assist with the selection and use of assistive technology, including screen readers, braille devices, and magnification tools

  • Provide consultation and support to families, caregivers, and school personnel

  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, ADA, and state special education regulations

  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team meetings via video conferencing

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation through secure digital platforms

 Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field

  • Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist: Visually Impaired (P-12) teaching license

  • Experience in virtual instruction or willingness to learn remote platforms

  • Familiarity with braille (UEB), Nemeth Code, and accessible educational materials

Preferred:

  • Certification in Orientation and Mobility (COMS)

  • Experience with virtual IEP platforms (e.g., ProgressBook, IEP Anywhere)

  • Proficiency with assistive technologies like JAWS, VoiceOver, NVDA, and refreshable braille displays

 Technical Requirements

  • Reliable high-speed internet connection

  • Secure, distraction-free workspace

  • Proficiency with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams

  • Ability to use learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas)
