Job Description:
We are a local, in-house construction team based in Surbiton, Surrey, specialising in residential building projects throughout the KT postcode area. We are looking to recruit a skilled and experienced General Builder, ideally with a background in carpentry or bricklaying.
This is a full-time, hands-on role that requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Local applicants are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret architectural and engineering plans

Prepare and set out foundations (excavation, formwork, and pouring)

Set out to DPC (damp-proof course) levels for bricklayers

Carry out drainage work (including soakaways and underground systems)

Assist in structural works such as steel and lintel installations

Perform first fix carpentry (stud walls, flat roofs, etc.)

General building tasks: insulation, plasterboard installation, prep for plastering

Carry out external work including paving and landscaping

Ensure all work is compliant with health & safety regulations
Preferred Experience & Skills:

Trade background in bricklaying or carpentry (preferred but not essential)

Previous experience in general construction and residential building

Ability to work from drawings independently

Physically fit, punctual, reliable, and team-oriented

Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Must be eligible to work in the UK
