Primary Purpose
The General Laborer is responsible for performing general construction site duties. To be successful as a general laborer, you must be able to perform a wide variety of tasks that require stamina and an eagerness to learn on the job. The ideal candidate will be able to understand instructions and carry them out efficiently within the given deadline.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs various physical duties as assigned
- Maintains all safety standards
- Moves, secures, installs, builds, loads, or unloads materials
- Performs some specialized tasks which may require on-the job training
- Effectively uses heavy and light equipment, depending on the task
- Moves items from place to place, according to direction from the site supervisor
- Moving tools, equipment, or other material as directed in plans or by supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma is an asset
- Torch skills a plus but not required
- Positive attitude and willingness to assist with a variety of tasks on the job as needed
- Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
- Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety
- Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
- Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment
- Excellent hand-eye-coordination
- Previous experience, especially in heavy civil construction is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Must be willing to take a post-offer drug screen.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, stoop and/or sit.
- Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders that have capacity limits of 300 lbs.
- Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
