We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead our cleaning operations within the Communities division. This is not just a leadership role; it’s a critical responsibility to promote exemplary cleanliness and hygiene standards across our portfolio of Healthcare PFI Facilities. As the Head of Cleaning for Healthcare PFI Communities, you will be at the forefront of our operations, driving innovation and excellence in cleaning services. This strategic position offers a significant opportunity for growth and development, requiring a task-oriented, hands-on leader who fosters a high-performance culture and continuous improvement. You will lead a dedicated team9s), ensuring that we not only meet but exceed contract requirements and key performance indicators.

Main Duties

  • Performance Excellence: Ensure that all contract requirements and key performance indicators are consistently met, and that the operations team(s) are motivated to deliver first-class service. Your work has a significant impact on healthcare standards and contributes to a cleaner, safer environment for patients and staff alike.
  • Strategic Decision Making: You play a critical role in contract decision-making. By producing detailed client and internal reports, you provide insights that drive operational efficiency and effectiveness, making a significant contribution to the company’s success.
  • Target Setting and Analysis: Your responsibility is to establish appropriate targets and objectives, and to analyse performance metrics in line with criteria agreed upon within the sector. You will drive through enhancements via the local contract manager, ensuring that the team is always striving for improvement.
  • Budget Control: Guarantee that all services are delivered efficiently and effectively, providing value for money while adhering to PFI contract stipulations.
  • Team Development: Proactively review and develop capability and succession-led targets, accordingly, guiding the contract managers to deliver the contractual obligations and service level requirements with the precise objective setting to foster continuously improving the standards required for high-level service delivery.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with key internal stakeholders supporting client-facing forums and stakeholder engagement as Mitie’s cleaning Subject Matter Expert. Your role is vital in building a solid network to collaborate effectively and achieve shared goals.

What we are looking for

  • Relevant qualifications such as a bachelor’s or master’s degree in healthcare management, Facilities Management, Business Administration (MBA), or related fields.
  • Currently accredited or have the Eligibility for the Register of Chartered Environmental Cleaning Professionals, including passing necessary background checks or holding relevant professional memberships.
  • Significant experience of at least [10 years] in a senior-level role within the healthcare PFI cleaning or facilities management industry, with a deep understanding of the specific challenges and regulations faced by hospitals.
  • A thorough understanding of infection control standards, safety protocols, and compliance regulations in a healthcare environment is essential. Responsibility to ensure compliance with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, as set by NHS England/Improvement, across all cleaning operations within healthcare settings. In addition, oversee the application of other cleaning standards, such as the National Cleaning Standards for NHS England (2007 & 2020), and NHS Cleaning Manual and various audit tools.
  • Proven ability to operate autonomously while demonstrating strong leadership skills, particularly in managing healthcare PFI facilities and overseeing cleaning operations in matrix management structures.
  • Extensive experience managing budgets and account plans specific to healthcare facilities, focusing on cost efficiency and resource allocation.
  • Demonstrated success in driving operational improvements and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs), such as [reducing infection rates by 20%] within a healthcare PFI cleaning context, emphasising quality and efficiency.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing diverse stakeholders, including hospital administration, medical staff, and external vendors.
  • Proven track record of collaborating effectively with clinical teams to ensure high standards of cleanliness and sanitation that meet patient safety and regulatory requirements.

 

  • Strong leadership skills with a history of motivating, training, and managing cleaning staff to foster a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Ability to navigate and resolve conflicts in challenging or adversarial client environments, maintaining professionalism and a focus on service delivery.
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset, with the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic hospital environment.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary to engage with stakeholders, conduct site assessments, and participate in relevant meetings or training sessions.
