The Role & Responsibilities

As part of the Credit Risk Function within the 2nd Line of Defence, this role supports the Chief Credit Officer (CCO) in credit risk decision-making, policy development, and ongoing monitoring. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the effectiveness and relevance of the Bank’s Credit Risk Management Framework while ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and external market conditions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead and manage a high-performing Credit Risk team
  • Work closely with the Deputy CCO and other senior leaders to allocate resources efficiently
  • Present findings and analysis to internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify and implement process efficiencies using automation
  • Provide strategic challenge to 1st Line growth plans and risk appetite changes
People & Culture
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment

  • Address underperformance with effective and supportive management
Credit Sanctioning
  • Oversee credit risk sanctioning for motor finance transactions
  • Ensure balanced and well-informed credit decisions
  • Act as Chair of the Credit Approvals Committee (CAC)
Risk Committees & Governance
  • Prepare reports for Executive and Non-Executive Risk Committees
  • Follow up on outstanding action points from committee meetings
  • Serve as Chair or Member of various credit risk oversight committees
  • Monitor compliance with risk appetite and concentration risk limits
Credit Risk Oversight
  • Oversee credit risk monitoring for the Retail Business segment
  • Analyse credit risk data and portfolio performance
  • Track lending volumes, credit quality, arrears, and emerging risks
  • Ensure credit rating models are robust and effective
  • Provide independent oversight on risk management processes
  • Work with 1st Line teams to ensure sustainable lending portfolio growth
Credit Risk Policy & Framework
  • Manage development and maintenance of credit risk policies
  • Support policy implementation and operational integration
  • Contribute to the credit risk strategy and alignment with bank-wide objectives

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a seasoned credit risk professional with:

  • Deep expertise in financial services and credit risk
  • Strong knowledge of intermediary mortgage lending and its processes
  • Familiarity with FCA regulations (MCOB, COCON)
  • Ability to influence strategic direction and provide informed challenge
  • Experience in senior management committees and decision-making
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire high-performing teams
  • Strong collaboration skills to build effective relationships across the business
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple complex projects
  • A high level of drive, resilience, and strategic thinking
