Job Description

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Inpatient Operations, this role helps oversee the daily operations of the inpatient pharmacy’s drug distribution system. In addition to fulfilling all responsibilities of Assignment Level I with greater autonomy, Assignment Level II includes the following duties:

  • Coordinate and supervise inpatient pharmacy operations, including the main pharmacy, hyperalimentation, stockroom, and controlled substances.

  • Collaborate with staff to implement and uphold quality improvement initiatives.

  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members or current staff transitioning to new roles.

  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance, address issues as needed, and enforce time and attendance policies.

  • Create and adjust work schedules to maintain efficient workflow and timely task completion.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and all applicable regulatory standards.

  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of medications and pharmacy supplies.

  • Identify training opportunities in collaboration with clinical pharmacists and pharmacy leadership.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

  • Conduct routine audits on various pharmacy functions such as distribution, repackaging, ordering, and medication verification.

  • Resolve operational issues proactively and escalate complex matters to leadership.

  • Foster clear communication across all shifts and areas through meetings, email updates, huddles, and policies.

  • Supervise pharmacy technicians to ensure accurate, safe, and efficient delivery of pharmacy services.

  • Oversee operations in the hyperalimentation pharmacy alongside the Assistant Director, ensuring safe compounding and distribution of sterile products. Responsibilities include workflow organization, staff supervision, policy enforcement, and sterile compounding as needed.

  • Maintain expert knowledge of and ensure readiness to implement downtime procedures.

  • Serve as a key clinical and technical resource for providers in designated specialty areas.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active and valid New York State Pharmacist License.

  • Plus one of the following:

    • At least two years of post-licensure pharmacy experience, or

    • Completion of a postgraduate pharmacy residency or fellowship, or

    • Current Board Certification in Pharmacy (BCPS or equivalent).
