Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant – Ophthalmology to join our team at The Hendon Hospital in London, part of Circle Health Group, the UK’s largest private hospital group. This bank position offers flexible shifts, allowing you to supplement staffing during busy periods and cover for staff absences. In this role, you will support ophthalmologists by conducting preliminary eye exams, preparing patients for procedures, managing diagnostic equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation of medical histories. Your technical skills and empathetic approach will help streamline clinic operations while providing invaluable support to both patients and physicians.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the efficient operation of the Ophthalmology Outpatients Department, supporting clinical teams in delivering high-quality patient care.

Conduct preliminary eye examinations and diagnostic tests, ensuring accurate documentation of ocular and medical histories.

Prepare patients for procedures, providing clear explanations and ensuring their comfort throughout the process.

Manage and maintain ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic equipment, ensuring they are clean and functional.

Coordinate scheduling of patient appointments and surgeries, ensuring efficient patient flow within the department.

Educate patients on eye care, treatment plans, and post-procedure instructions, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.

What We Require:

Care Certificate.

Previous experience in a Healthcare Assistant role, preferably within ophthalmology.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team and under supervision.

Organizational skills with attention to detail in handling patient records and inquiries.
