Position Details

  • Facility: Remote NE (Mountain Time)

  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

  • Compensation: $19.00 – $30.50/hour

  • Flexibility: Choose from five 8-hour shifts, four 9-hour shifts + one 4-hour shift, or four 10-hour shifts. Optional overtime frequently available.


About the Role

As an Outpatient Medical Coder, you will assign ICD and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures for outpatient medical records. Your work ensures accurate reimbursement, supports research, and maintains compliance with federal and state regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of medical terminology, and adherence to HIPAA privacy standards.

You’ll work remotely from home, with opportunities to expand your skills across multiple specialties.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assign accurate ICD and CPT codes for outpatient records.

  • Ensure coding meets reimbursement, compliance, and research standards.

  • Review documentation for completeness and accuracy.

  • Apply critical thinking to support payment groupings and medical necessity.

  • Work extensively with electronic medical records and encoders.


Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology required.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM) preferred.

  • Certification: RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS, or COC (must be maintained through continuing education).

    • New graduates must sit for certification exams at the earliest available date.

    • Employees failing exams twice will be evaluated by the Department Director; failure on the third attempt results in termination.

  • Knowledge & Skills:

    • Strong grasp of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, operative terms, and pharmacology.

    • Familiarity with medical record components and coding software.

    • High ethical standards, logical reasoning, and attention to detail.
