About the Position – Inpatient Coder II
As an Inpatient Coder II, you’ll use your technical expertise to ensure accurate code assignment and reimbursement for complex inpatient cases. You’ll work closely with providers, CDI nurses, and the health record system to ensure compliance, quality, and proper documentation.
Key Responsibilities

Assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for high-acuity inpatient discharges (average CMI: 2.2609).

Review provider documentation, CDI nurse findings, and discharge planning notes to validate coding accuracy.

Assign POA indicators for quality metrics and reporting.

Collaborate with CDI on ~45% of discharges regarding MS-DRG or APR-DRG assignments.

Ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM/PCS guidelines, Coding Clinics, and coding conventions.

Write appeal letters for payor DRG downgrade notices.

Resolve coding validation warnings and Nosology alerts.

Meet established productivity and quality standards consistently.
Minimum Requirements

Experience: At least 3 years of inpatient coding in an Academic Medical Center.

Skills: Strong computer, communication, and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects.

Certifications (AHIMA or AAPC): RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC.

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology is essential.
