About the Role

The Whitworth Art Gallery is seeking a motivated and service-driven Hospitality Services Assistant to join our vibrant catering team. This role offers the opportunity to work in one of Manchester’s most dynamic cultural spaces, delivering exceptional food and beverage service in our café, restaurant, and across a variety of exciting events such as weddings, conferences, and exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide warm, friendly, and professional food and drink service to customers in the café and during gallery-hosted events

  • Maintain excellent customer service standards, helping to enhance the overall visitor experience

  • Set up, serve, and clear hospitality functions including private viewings, receptions, and weddings

  • Operate coffee machines and prepare hot beverages to barista standards (training provided if required)

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment in line with food safety and health & safety regulations

  • Work efficiently in a high-pressure environment, adapting to the pace and requirements of a busy hospitality setting

  • Support the gallery’s vision to be inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all visitors

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working in a café, restaurant, or events environment

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • A friendly, team-oriented attitude with the ability to stay positive under pressure

  • Basic understanding of food safety and health & safety procedures (training can be provided)

  • Barista experience is desirable but not essential

  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as required

Working Hours & Pattern

  • 20 hours per week

  • Flexible shift pattern including weekends and evenings (on a rota)

  • The role may involve working across 7 days (Monday–Sunday)
