Job Description
Overview
This leadership role is responsible for managing an HR team that provides core HR support for Seminaries and Institutes of Religion (S&I). As a key advisor, this role requires expert HR knowledge and the ability to handle complex challenges while working with significant autonomy. Reporting to the Director of HR for S&I, this position collaborates closely with department leaders, HR teams, and Centers of Excellence (COEs) to align HR strategies with the mission of S&I. The role plays a crucial part in advancing organizational goals and initiatives by guiding and empowering an HR team of 5-7 professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Support
- Provide people leadership and development for a team of HR professionals.
- Offer consultative leadership support to S&I leadership.
- Serve as executive secretary for the S&I Talent Council (Placement Council) by coordinating decisions, meetings, and initiatives.
- Utilize data analysis and strategic thinking to support S&I projects that impact global decisions.
- Handle escalated HR concerns and provide resolutions.
- Administer the S&I non-qualified early retirement incentive program in compliance with legal guidelines.
- Ensure system accuracy and resolve technical and process-related issues.
- Represent S&I in collaborative meetings with other Church departments and benefit administrators (DMBA).
HR Operations & Policy Implementation
- Interpret, administer, and implement HR policies and guiding principles.
- Provide compensation guidance, especially for hiring and employee relocations.
- Support workforce relations and assist in resolving disputes.
- Oversee benefits and compensation analysis, approval processes, and merit increases.
- Manage position and budget tracking, including FTE reconciliation.
- Oversee talent acquisition, including job postings, offer letters, and onboarding.
- Ensure accurate data management, including reporting, auditing, and tracking.
- Oversee promotion, assignment changes, transfers, and compensation adjustments.
- Administer offboarding processes, including exit surveys and checklist coordination.
- Support the Service Mission Office with essential responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- 8+ years of HR experience, with deep expertise in HR operations.
- Strong knowledge of compensation principles and HR best practices.
- Proven ability to:
- Lead an HR team and build strong relationships.
- Provide consultative guidance to S&I leadership.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and employee coaching.
- Develop effective solutions to complex HR challenges.
- Implement organizational change successfully.
- Communicate effectively through writing, influence, and compromise.
- Resolve employee relations issues and analyze HR data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Previous people management experience.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM, HRCI).
