The Role

The Head of Human Resources Canada, as part of the Americas People and Culture Team, will serve as a Human Resources Business Partner. This role supports our Canadian business and acts as a trusted advisor to the Canadian leadership team. It is both hands-on and strategic, providing human resource leadership in developing and implementing HR strategies that foster growth, innovation, and organizational effectiveness.

As a strategic leader, you will initiate, execute, and successfully launch regionally aligned solutions for performance management across Canada. You will lead HR strategy for Canada and be a trusted advisor and business partner to the President of Hays Canada and the senior Canadian leadership team, advising on matters impacting both permanent and flexible workforces. You will partner with the CFO, Financial Planning & Analysis team, and Talent Acquisition Leader to accurately forecast hiring needs, aligning with business growth projections and strategic objectives.

Your responsibilities

You will implement regional programs for the Talent Management lifecycle in Canada, including career conversations, goal setting, career development, annual reviews, talent reviews, talent movement, promotions, transfers, retention, succession planning, performance management, terminations, and offboarding processes. You will work closely with Regional Rewards, Compensation, HRBPs, HR Operations, Engagement, and DEI teams to lead and optimize plans ensuring long-term employee satisfaction and retention at Hays. Additionally, you will create reports for leaders to help them understand business dynamics and anticipate future needs, preparing regular reports and presentations for senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.

Interaction with leaders at all levels will require excellent communication skills, data-driven analytical thinking, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, rigorous, and ambiguous environment.

You will have

You will need to have over 10 years of HR business partnering experience with an understanding of Canadian HR employment laws and people practices. Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with senior executives, hiring managers, and cross-functional partners is essential. You should have experience leading and running projects or HR programs, as well as building and managing high-performing teams, including setting goals, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.

You should possess executive presence and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to foster respect and partnerships. A bachelor’s degree is required, while a Master’s in HR, I/O Psychology, MBA, or a related field is preferred. A nimble business mind focused on meeting deliverables through strong accountability is important. .
