Hydrovac Operator – Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Hydrovac Operator to handle Hydrovac trucks, trailers, and construction equipment for hydro excavation projects. This role may also involve serving as a crew lead, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Perform Hydro Excavation Tasks – Execute projects such as utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging.
✅ Operate Equipment Safely – Professionally manage Hydrovac trucks, trailers, and excavation equipment.
✅ Supervise Crew Members – Lead Hydrovac Laborers/Swampers, ensuring project success and skill development.
✅ Ensure Safety Compliance – Set up and inspect grounding and bonding procedures as necessary.
✅ Maintain Accurate Documentation – Complete all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
✅ Equipment Maintenance & Inspection – Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections and routine maintenance.

Skills & Competencies

🔹 Understanding of underground utilities
🔹 Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, trucks, and machinery safely
🔹 Strong time management skills for completing projects on schedule
🔹 Effective team communication and leadership abilities

Supervisory Responsibilities

🛠️ Often serves as a crew lead, overseeing Hydrovac Laborers.

Work Environment

🌍 Outdoor work at various job sites, potentially in inclement weather
🔊 High noise levels, requiring ear protection
🕐 Occasional weekend, night shifts, and emergency response duties
⚠️ Exposure to moving machinery, vehicles, and excavation equipment

Physical Requirements

✔️ Regularly required to talk, hear, type, and operate machinery
✔️ Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and crouching
✔️ Must occasionally lift and carry up to 65 pounds
✔️ Must have adequate vision to safely perform tasks

Position Details

🗓 Schedule: Primarily weekday shifts, with on-call rotations for nights, weekends, and emergency response
⏳ Hours: May include long shifts with overtime opportunities

Qualifications

Required:

✔️ Class A or B CDL with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsements
✔️ Current DOT physical certification
✔️ High School Diploma or GED
✔️ Clean driving record
✔️ Must pass drug screening, MVR check, and background check
✔️ Ability to work in secured locations

Preferred:

➕ 1+ year of Hydrovac experience
➕ 3 years of CDL driving experience
➕ Mechanical skills for vehicle maintenance and inspection
➕ Comfortable working in confined spaces and diverse outdoor environments
