About The In House Substitute Teacher Role

The In House Substitute Teacher position is a one-year role that supports classroom instruction by providing class coverage when teachers are absent and assisting the lead teacher with instruction and classroom management when coverage is not needed.

This position continues through the end of the 2024-25 school year. At the end of the school year, In House Substitute Teachers may interview for or be offered the role of Capital Teaching Resident, Lead Teacher, or another role at their school or another KIPP DC school. As the In House Substitute Teacher role is a one year role, a position for the following school year is not guaranteed. This role is an exempt position and will report to the principal of the In House Substitute Teacher’s assigned school.

As An In House Substitute Teacher You Will

  • Serve as the substitute in a classroom when a teacher is absent by delivering internalized lessons and maintaining a positive classroom culture
  • Assist lead teachers with instruction, classroom culture, and administrative duties when substituting is not required
  • Build trusting relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues
  • Implement school-wide student culture policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus
  • Conduct purposeful observations of excellent lead teachers
  • Participate in regular meetings with teachers and leaders, grade level meetings, and network wide professional development
  • Take on additional responsibilities throughout the school as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, all majors accepted (Preferred)
  • Completed 60 college credit hours or more in lieu of a conferred degree (Required)
  • Experience working with PreK-12th grade students (Preferred)
  • A belief that all students have the right to a high quality education where educators play an integral role in providing support so that all students can succeed

  • Successful track record of collaboratively working and building relationships with a wide range of people
