Education

Job Description:

  • Doctorate: Completion of an accredited pharmacy program.

Certification & Licensure:

  • PHARMD: Licensed Pharmacist
  • OR PHARMR: Registered Pharmacist
  • ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required for those responding to emergency codes)

Typical Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of recent, relevant experience.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Understanding of medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and generic vs. trade drug names.

  • Familiarity with various pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic handling procedures.

  • Proficiency in recognizing and utilizing pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols in prescribing, dispensing, and record-keeping.

  • Working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards, including regulations from:

    • National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)
    • The Joint Commission (TJC)
    • Title XXII regulations
    • Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
    • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
    • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
    • United States Pharmacopeia (USP)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex and sensitive information to diverse audiences, including non-medical individuals.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills, ensuring the ability to prioritize assignments and adhere to standardized procedures to meet objectives and deadlines.

  • General proficiency in computer applications, including:

    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Pharmaceutical technology tools
    • Electronic Health Records (EHR)
    • EPIC software
  • Ability to:

    • Work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
    • Manage multiple tasks efficiently, even in fast-paced or interruptive settings.
    • Identify, assess, and resolve standard issues by selecting appropriate solutions from established guidelines.
    • Uphold patient privacy and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
