About the Job
Conifer Health Solutions, a part of Tenet and Catholic Health Initiatives, is seeking a skilled Inpatient Coder to join its experienced healthcare team. This role is responsible for assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to inpatient charts using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS systems while maintaining compliance with all coding standards and regulations. The coder ensures data accuracy for quality reporting and reimbursement purposes in support of value-based healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes in accordance with official guidelines and AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding.

Abstract clinical data from medical records to ensure complete and accurate documentation.

Maintain 95.5%+ coding accuracy for diagnoses, DRG assignments, and procedures.

Meet or exceed productivity standards for inpatient coding.

Create compliant physician queries to clarify documentation and coding discrepancies.

Stay updated with AHA Coding Clinics, CMS regulations, and coding standards.

Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), Quality, and other healthcare teams.

Monitor DNFB accounts, resolving held cases promptly to support revenue performance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Expertise in MS-DRG and APR DRG classification systems.

Skilled in using encoders, CDI tools, and EMR systems.

Ability to compare documentation, codes, and financial data for completeness.

Proficiency in creating AHIMA-compliant physician queries.

Strong research and communication skills to address business office or payer queries.

Capable of working independently in a telecommuting environment while meeting productivity and accuracy targets.
Education and Experience

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information, Nursing, or related field.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of inpatient coding in an acute care setting.
Certifications

Required: AHIMA (excluding CCA) or AAPC-approved credential (e.g., CCS, RHIT, RHIA).
Work Environment

Remote work available under Conifer’s Telecommuter Policy.

May involve hospital-based work for certain tasks or meetings.

Light lifting (15–20 lbs) and extended computer work required.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay: $27.30 – $40.95/hour
