Position Summary

The Guidance Counselor provides academic, career, and personal counseling to support student growth and success. This role helps students with course planning, career exploration, and social-emotional development while collaborating with parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Counsel students on academic, personal, and career concerns.

  • Support post-secondary planning, including college and career readiness.

  • Assist with applications for college, scholarships, and jobs.

  • Interpret assessments and guide students in identifying strengths.

  • Promote dropout prevention and student engagement strategies.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential student records.

  • Collaborate with staff, families, and community partners.

  • Organize career programs, field trips, and workshops.

Qualifications

  • Valid Missouri Guidance Counselor Certification.

  • Degree and experience required for certification.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Employment Details

  • Contract: 9.5 months (additional days for secondary counselors).

  • Salary & Benefits: Based on Board of Education salary schedule; includes full retirement plan (PEERS/PSRS + Social Security) and district benefits.

  • Clearance: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background check required.
