Company Overview

Driven by a personal mission to cure a rare disease, United Therapeutics is a unique biotechnology company focused on transforming the lives of individuals with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. We’re dedicated to creating innovative pharmaceutical therapies and technologies, including those that increase access to organ transplantation, all with the aim of building a brighter future for patients. As the first publicly-traded biotech or pharmaceutical company structured as a public benefit corporation, we’re committed to both impactful work and having a positive impact.

Who We Are

United Therapeutics (Nasdaq: UTHR) stands as the first publicly-traded biotech or pharmaceutical company to embrace the public benefit corporation model. Our core mission is to forge a brighter future for patients by pioneering novel pharmaceutical therapies and advancing technologies that expand the availability of life-saving organ transplants. Originally founded in 1996 by a family’s quest to find a treatment for their daughter’s pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), we’ve grown to offer six FDA-approved therapies addressing PAH, pulmonary hypertension linked to interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD), and the rare pediatric cancer neuroblastoma. Our immediate focus includes developing further treatments for PAH and pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Recognizing that organ transplantation offers a potential cure for many end-stage diseases, including those we currently treat, we are also boldly pursuing the creation of manufactured organs to overcome the critical shortage and ultimately eliminate transplant waiting lists.
