Nelnet is hiring an experienced IT Software Architect to help design and deliver enterprise-level software solutions that support critical business operations. As an IT Software Architect, you will work across agile teams to provide technical leadership, shape system architecture, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with business goals. Responsibilities

Lead application design, architecture patterns, and development best practices.

Collaborate with agile teams to deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions.

Understand business domains and translate needs into technical solutions.

Ensure designs align with Nelnet’s IT Delivery technology direction.

Promote reuse of existing services, components, and technologies.

Mentor team members and provide technical leadership across projects.

Identify opportunities to improve architecture across the enterprise.

Stay current with emerging technologies and apply them effectively.

Ensure security, reliability, and compliance with NIST and ISSO2 standards.

Partner with solution architects to support enterprise technology alignment.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Minimum 5 years of software development experience with expertise in at least one core competency.

2–3 years of leadership experience delivering medium-to-large scale solutions.

U.S. citizenship required with ability to obtain 6C Federal security clearance.
Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of Microsoft .NET Framework, .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET, and IIS.

Expertise in RESTful Web Services, service-based and message-driven architectures.

Proficiency with SQL Server or other relational databases.

Experience with GitLab, full-stack development, and secure coding practices.

Familiarity with collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or Microsoft Teams.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Ability to learn new technologies quickly and drive cross-team collaboration.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $110,000 – $150,000 annually, based on experience.
