Hampton School, a leading independent institution in South West London, is seeking a dedicated IT Systems Administrator to enhance our IT infrastructure. This pivotal role ensures the reliability and security of our systems, supporting approximately 2,000 users. The ideal candidate will possess over five years of experience in similar roles, demonstrating expertise in system administration and a commitment to maintaining high service standards.

Role Overview: IT Systems Administrator

As an IT Systems Administrator, you will:

  • Manage and maintain the Trust’s IT systems, ensuring their integrity, security, and availability.

  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and system documentation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, liaising with third-party suppliers as necessary.

  • Provide technical training to the service team, enhancing their support capabilities.

  • Lead small-scale system projects and improvements, aligning with the School’s IT strategy.

  • Conduct regular system audits, including cybersecurity assessments.

Key Responsibilities: IT Systems Administrator

  • Service Duties (50%):

    • Ensure the smooth operation of IT services, addressing any issues promptly.

    • Communicate system downtimes and updates to users effectively.

    • Provide third-line support and act as an escalation point for complex issues.

  • Systems and Development Duties (50%):

    • Review and recommend improvements to existing systems.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement new systems or enhance current ones.

    • Deliver training on system changes to the IT team.

    • Report on system statuses and development work to IT leadership.

Candidate Profile

Experience with:

  • Managing systems for large user bases (~2,000 users).

  • Virtual platforms, including VMware and Windows Server.

  • Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, LDAP, VPN, and network services.

  • Firewall and filtering systems, notably FortiGate.

  • Mobile Device Management (MDM) for MacOS.

  • Backup solutions like Veeam.

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and technologies.

  • Leadership qualities, with experience in assigning tasks and coaching team members.

  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

This is a full-time, permanent position, Monday to Friday. While on-site presence is preferred, hybrid working arrangements may be considered.
