Plumbing Journeyman
Essential Job Functions:
- Meet all requirements of 4 year Apprentice.
- Knowledge of all tools, equipment and skills necessary for the complete installation of projects common to the plumbing industry.
- Possession of the tools as required by the company.
- Direct the activities of field crew member(s) in accordance with job schedules and priorities as coordinated with project manager/customer/general contractor and field foreman as applicable.
- Submit daily job progress reports to supervisors as required.
- Responsible for ordering stock or fabricated materials as far in advance as possible either personally or through site foreman to ensure completion of assigned tasks.
- Responsible for physical jobsite organization and housekeeping to ensure a safe professional work area.
- Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of company equipment as well as monitoring the use and timely return of rented equipment.
- Install sanitary systems, water systems, fuel systems, fixtures and equipment.
- Assemble, install and repair pipes, fitting, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
- Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
- Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
- Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
- Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
- Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
- Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains.
- Install underground, sanitary and water piping systems and extend to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems. Job may require trench digging.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe worksite at all times.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
- Wear assigned PPE at all times while on the job site.
- Responsible for the accurate accounting of labor hours to the accounting department, material sheets and change orders, etc.
- Responsible for obtaining and maintaining necessary licensing/certification for performing work in areas where such is required.
- Responsible for instruction and on the job training of apprentices/crew members which includes emphasis on safety.
- Responsible for maintaining knowledge of local/national codes and industry standards. Ensure that all necessary inspections are made through all phases of work.
- Support the total quality effort. Identify and respond to the needs of internal and external customers 100% of the time.
- Work within the guidelines of the safety and employee policy.

- Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position
- Wear assigned PPE at all times while on the job site.

- Qualifications:
- 4 year apprenticeship certificate or 4 years of field experience
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of plumbing, construction practice and safety procedures
- Working knowledge of all relevant national and local codes and company and industry standards.
- Must possess and maintain licenses that are required in the jurisdictions that you are working.
- Work well as a team. Team work is essential so being a good team member is key at CMS.
- Reliable transportation to and from work required
- Physical requirements: Able to lift, push, pull and twist up to 50 lbs through out the workday. Work overhead, climb ladders, work on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time.
- Daily work activities include: sitting, kneeling, climbing, squatting, crawling, digging, and ascending and descending ladders and scaffolding constantly throughout the work day.
