About the Role
The Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our Facilities Maintenance Branch. This is a full-operating level position responsible for maintaining, repairing, and upgrading plumbing systems and fixtures across more than 50 CDPS facilities statewide. This role is critical to ensuring safe, compliant, and operationally ready facilities that support the mission of safeguarding lives and strengthening Colorado communities.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and fixtures in accordance with code requirements

Troubleshoot and respond to plumbing service calls
-
Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical plumbing systems and fire protection systems

Install, test, and maintain backflow prevention devices

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications

Prepare estimates, requisitions, reports, and documentation in maintenance systems

Serve as liaison for plumbing needs in capital construction projects

Conduct facility audits and inspections to assess repair and upgrade requirements

Provide technical consultation on plumbing requirements for new construction or renovations
Minimum Qualifications
-
Current Journeyman Plumber license issued by the State of Colorado (required)

At least 3 years of plumbing and steam piping experience, including preventive maintenance, installation, and repair

Valid Colorado Driver’s License (must be maintained throughout employment)

Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform strenuous labor
Preferred Qualifications

1+ year of service plumbing experience

1+ year of drain cleaning experience

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows

Excellent customer service and communication skills
Additional Requirements

Colorado residency required at time of application

Background check, fingerprinting, and polygraph exam required
