Company Overview

The Staff Accountant – General Accounting plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records. This position is responsible for reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing analyses for the month-end close. The role also supports the preparation of quarterly financial statements and ensures compliance with GAAP, company policies, and established procedures. The Staff Accountant contributes to the overall financial accuracy and efficiency of assigned accounting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Support accounting functions related to Sales and Marketing, Fixed Assets, Leases, and General Ledger activities within the Accounting Department

  • Prepare accurate and timely account reconciliations and journal entries

  • Serve as a backup for month-end close responsibilities typically managed by other accountants

  • Assist in analyzing and documenting significant account variances

  • Support the preparation of quarterly financial statements submitted to Berkshire Hathaway

  • Participate in departmental initiatives and contribute to special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • 1–3 years of relevant accounting experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills

  • Experience with SAP is a plus

  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Willingness to travel up to 5% within the U.S. and Canada; occasional weekend work may be required

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and responsiveness to both internal and external stakeholders

  • Proven ability to build strong peer relationships, foster collaboration, and resolve issues constructively

  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and responding effectively to dynamic and ad-hoc requests

  • Skilled in problem-solving and issue resolution through the application of internal policies, procedures, and processes

  • Results-driven with a focus on achieving goals and deadlines
