Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Karen Interpreter to support face-to-face communication in healthcare, community, and social service settings across the Twin Cities area. This role plays a critical part in bridging the language gap between Karen-speaking clients and English-speaking providers, helping ensure safe, respectful, and accurate exchanges of information—particularly in sensitive medical and social situations.
Key Responsibilities

Provide on-site interpretation for medical appointments, social work sessions, and community service engagements

Facilitate clear, culturally sensitive communication between clients and service providers

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations

Uphold professional conduct and accuracy across diverse environments
Required Qualifications

Fluency in spoken and written Karen and English

Listed on or eligible for the Minnesota Spoken Language Health Care Interpreter Roster

Reliable transportation to travel to appointment sites across the Twin Cities

U.S. citizenship or valid work authorization

Ability to pass a background check

Strong communication skills and understanding of cultural nuances
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a 40-hour interpreter training certificate (or willingness to complete after hire)
2+ years of professional interpreting experience
Familiarity with the NCIHC Code of Ethics and commitment to earning 8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) annually
