Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Karen Interpreter to support face-to-face communication in healthcare, community, and social service settings across the Twin Cities area. This role plays a critical part in bridging the language gap between Karen-speaking clients and English-speaking providers, helping ensure safe, respectful, and accurate exchanges of information—particularly in sensitive medical and social situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site interpretation for medical appointments, social work sessions, and community service engagements

  • Facilitate clear, culturally sensitive communication between clients and service providers

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations

  • Uphold professional conduct and accuracy across diverse environments

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in spoken and written Karen and English

  • Listed on or eligible for the Minnesota Spoken Language Health Care Interpreter Roster

  • Reliable transportation to travel to appointment sites across the Twin Cities

  • U.S. citizenship or valid work authorization

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Strong communication skills and understanding of cultural nuances

Preferred Qualifications

 Completion of a 40-hour interpreter training certificate (or willingness to complete after hire)
2+ years of professional interpreting experience
 Familiarity with the NCIHC Code of Ethics and commitment to earning 8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) annually
