High School Social Studies Teacher – Virtual (Kentucky, USA)

Kentucky Virtual Academy (KYVA), the districtwide online program of Cloverport Independent School District, is seeking a passionate, certified High School Social Studies Teacher for the 2025–2026 school year. This is a full-time, remote position with flexible work-from-home benefits and state-aligned teaching expectations.

Position Summary

The Social Studies Teacher delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction in a fully online setting. You’ll manage the learning process, provide individualized support, and collaborate with families and colleagues to ensure every student reaches their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Duties

  • Conduct live virtual classes (minimum 15 hours/week)

  • Develop and implement learning plans aligned to KY standards

  • Use data to identify student needs and provide tailored support

  • Assess student performance and maintain gradebooks

  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized testing

  • Ensure academic integrity and promote student success

Relationship Building

  • Build strong, ongoing communication with students and parents/Learning Coaches

  • Support setup and maintenance of home learning environments

  • Promote an inclusive, respectful virtual classroom culture

Administrative & Collaborative Tasks

  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and trainings

  • Collaborate with instructional coaches and team members

  • Travel within Kentucky as needed for testing or events (~20%)

  • Sponsor or support virtual clubs, marketing events, or extracurriculars

Qualifications

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience

  • Valid Kentucky teaching certificate for high school social studies

  • Meets Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) standards under NCLB

Preferred:

  • Experience in online or hybrid teaching environments

  • Familiarity with learning platforms like Blackboard or Newrow

  • Strong technology and digital communication skills

  • Experience supporting students and parents virtually

Technical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Reliable high-speed internet and professional home office setup

  • Ability to work independently (40+ hours/week during standard hours)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to travel occasionally across Kentucky

  • Successful completion of background check
