About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Teradata DBA to oversee the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) database delivery, system administration, and data governance initiatives. This leadership role requires expertise in Teradata, SQL, and large-scale database performance tuning, combined with experience in healthcare/Medicaid environments. The ideal candidate will manage both technical system upgrades and business-level data support while guiding teams on best practices and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Data Governance

Lead Teradata database projects and governance initiatives.

Coordinate with stakeholders to meet business, security, and reporting requirements.

Participate in agile development environments and large-scale DDI projects.
System Administration & Maintenance

Manage and maintain on-prem Teradata systems, including patches, upgrades, configurations, and hardware replacements.

Monitor system health using Viewpoint and other tools; perform preventive and corrective actions.

Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and quarterly maintenance.

Work with vendors/subcontractors to ensure system hardening and vulnerability remediation.
Database Operations & Optimization

Perform backup and recovery operations using BAR DSA and NetBackup.
-
Monitor and optimize performance, capacity, and resource usage (CPU, I/O, Spool, Storage).

Maintain workload management using TASM and Workload Manager partitions.

Administer access rights, role rights, priority scheduling, and security reporting.
Development Support & Governance

Guide developers on database design and implementation best practices.

Support EDW users with query optimization, job handling, and data integrity issues.

Administer OpenText BI-Query models and front-end tools.

Lead database-related meetings and deliverables independently.
Reporting & Compliance

Generate capacity and performance reports.

Support internal and external audits, proactively addressing risks and vulnerabilities.

Communicate system alerts, risks, and status updates to stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with security evaluation frameworks.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
-
7+ years of lead Teradata DBA experience (Version 15+) with application and system responsibilities.

Hands-on experience with on-prem Teradata 6800/1800 or IntelliFlex systems.

Expert in SQL and Teradata utilities (FastLoad, MultiLoad, FastExport, BTEQ, TPT).

Proven performance tuning experience in large databases (>5TB).

Data governance and metadata management expertise.

Healthcare/Medicaid/Government or equivalent project experience.

System administration knowledge (Windows/Linux).
-
Demonstrated leadership in presentations, capacity planning, and performance management.

Experience in large DDI projects.
-
Strong communication, client-facing, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Teradata Vantage Certified Master.

Data modeling experience (Erwin or similar).

Experience with OpenText BI-Query and metadata management.

Familiarity with Medicaid/Medicare/Healthcare applications.

Agile environment experience (Scrum, DevOps, GitHub).

Application server administration experience.
-
ETL development or data analysis experience.

Cloud migration experience (Snowflake, Azure).
-
Willingness to travel monthly/quarterly or as needed.

Candidates must be located within two hours of Springfield, IL.
Work Location & Travel
