Lead Software Engineer – Contract to Hire (6 Months) | 100% Remote

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and versatile Lead Software Engineer for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity. This role requires a strong engineering background with deep experience building full-stack cloud-native systems on AWS, and expertise in both software development and platform/infrastructure practices.

This is a deeply technical position, ideal for a senior-level software engineer who has evolved into a hybrid role combining aspects of backend development, DevOps, and cloud architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud-Native Development: Design, build, and deploy scalable, resilient applications using AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, ECS Fargate, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, SNS/SQS, and RDS (Postgres, Oracle).

  • API Development: Develop robust backend APIs using Node.js and TypeScript. Experience with React is helpful for internal tools, though not essential.

  • Infrastructure as Code: Create and manage infrastructure using Terraform, including writing new modules from scratch following AWS best practices.

  • Observability and Operations: Implement and manage observability using tools like Dynatrace and Splunk, with hands-on experience in application performance monitoring (APM), logging, distributed tracing, and production system support.

  • Solution Architecture: Independently design end-to-end technical solutions based on business requirements, document using tools like Lucidchart, and guide the team through architecture reviews and implementation.

  • Migration & Replatforming: Support the migration of on-premise, container-based workloads (Docker/Kubernetes) to modern, event-driven, AWS-native serverless architectures.

  • Production Support: Take ownership of your services in production, including monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.

  • CIAM Focus: Work on core customer identity and access management (CIAM) systems including SSO, registration, login, RBAC, and audit logging APIs.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Software Engineering Core: Strong backend development background with extensive experience in TypeScript (Node.js). Exposure to React.js is a plus.

  • Cloud Architecture Experience: Proven ability to design, develop, and deploy applications leveraging AWS-native services. Not just maintenance—end-to-end ownership of building production-ready solutions.

  • Infrastructure as Code Expertise: Ability to write new Terraform modules from scratch; not just modify existing ones.

  • Observability Knowledge: Hands-on familiarity with APM and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace and Splunk, with a track record of supporting mission-critical production systems.

  • Leadership & Communication: Comfortable leading architectural discussions, mentoring junior engineers, and translating high-level product requirements into scalable technical solutions.

  • Product-Oriented Mindset: Ability to understand business requirements, break down complex features into actionable tasks, and deliver iteratively with quality and speed.

  • Replatforming Experience: Experience in transforming tightly-coupled monolithic systems into loosely-coupled, event-driven, serverless platforms is highly valued.

  • Domain Experience (CIAM): Familiarity with identity management, authentication, and access control APIs is a strong plus.

Key Project

You will play a key role in a major replatforming initiative to transition CIAM APIs from a Kubernetes-based, on-premise infrastructure to AWS-native serverless architecture. Key project responsibilities include:

  • Migrating services to serverless infrastructure

  • Refactoring APIs for event-driven communication

  • Implementing multi-region disaster recovery (warm standby) with real-time data synchronization between AWS and on-prem Oracle systems

  • Navigating complex data and connectivity migrations during the replatforming process
