General Summary
Holy Cross Health is seeking a Physician Advisor to provide clinical leadership and guidance in utilization management, level of care (LOC), length of stay (LOS), patient flow, and clinical documentation improvement (CDI). This role supports care coordination, ensures efficient patient throughput, and facilitates appropriate resource utilization. The Physician Advisor also provides oversight for other physician advisors and engages the medical staff in aligning with best practices and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage physician advisor functions, policies, and workflows.

  • Serve as a clinical expert in utilization review, patient placement, discharge planning, and denial management.

  • Support care teams in ensuring appropriate care delivery and physician understanding of care management practices.

  • Provide education and training to medical and CDI staff.

  • Conduct peer-to-peer reviews and support appeals of payer coverage denials.

  • Collaborate with departments and leadership to standardize processes and drive physician engagement.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree with board certification and active medical license.

  • Completion of a residency program (e.g., Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine).

  • Minimum of 5 years of hospital clinical experience preferred.

  • Prior experience as a physician advisor and involvement in medical staff committees is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of care management, payer guidelines, Medicare regulations, and clinical documentation standards.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and teaching skills.
