Job Description:
Lead Teacher
Responsible for the education, daily care and recreation of children. Provides emergent, child-directed, developmentally appropriate activities in the classroom, and initiates and fosters positive guidance and behavior management practices for children. Lead Teachers are expected to encourage their Aides to become more involved in the class management as they mentor them in becoming teacher qualified. Must be able to engage and effectively communicate with parents/guardians, volunteers, and other staff members.

- Knowledge of rules for Certified Child Care Centers

- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- Central Background Registry Enrollment
- Pediatric CPR and First Aid certifications required upon date of hire
- Food Handlers card required upon date of hire
- Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
- Oregon Registry
- Completion of 20 semester credits or 30 quarter credits in Early Ed, Child Development OR documentation of attaining at least step 8 in the Oregon Registry
- Required to maintain 24 hours of annual continuing education
- Commit to actively working a Step 9 education plan
Experience
- Two years’ experience in an early childhood program working with children and families
- Bilingual skills preferred
