Librarian

The County Free Library is seeking a dedicated and community-focused Librarian I to join our team. This position provides direct public service, develops and delivers innovative library programs, supervises staff and volunteers, and oversees daily library operations. Key Responsibilities

• Manage assigned service areas (youth or adult services) by developing, presenting, and coordinating inclusive library programs.

• Serve as the librarian in charge of the building as assigned.

• Assist patrons with library resources, technology, equipment, and community referrals.

• Plan and deliver educational programs such as early literacy initiatives, technology instruction, outreach, and advisory boards.

• Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate library staff, volunteers, and interns.

• Apply best practices in public service, community engagement, conflict management, and complaint resolution.

• Oversee facilities management, reporting maintenance needs and resolving operational issues.

• Participate in system-wide committees, workshops, and professional development to ensure service excellence.

• Manage workload, prioritize tasks, monitor resources, and review reports.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, Business/Public Administration, or a related field.

• Experience: Three (3) years of experience in libraries, customer service, education, or social services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited institution.

• Minimum three (3) years as a professional Librarian.

• Experience creating and delivering early literacy programs for children ages 0–8.

Additional Information

• Licenses/Certificates: Some positions may require specialized certifications or a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license.

• Schedule: Rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

• Special Notice: Bilingual abilities may be required depending on assignment. A pre-employment background check is mandatory.
