The Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives (KDLA) plays a vital role in providing citizens, businesses, and agencies with access to essential information resources—virtual, physical, and human. As one of only ten state agencies nationwide that combines library, archival, and public records programs, KDLA is uniquely positioned to serve the diverse information needs of the Commonwealth.

We are currently seeking a Librarian I to join the Kentucky Talking Book Library. This position provides professional library services in customer support, programming, collection development, and account management for patrons with print disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate engaging virtual and in-person programs for youth (ages 0–18), school accounts, and partner agencies.

  • Plan and manage Kentucky Talking Book Library regional and statewide events.

  • Provide reader advisory services by phone, email, and in person.

  • Assist patrons with downloading reading materials and request interlibrary loans.

  • Manage youth and school accounts: establish new accounts, update preferences, cancel lapsed accounts, and retrieve loaned materials.

  • Select materials for institutional collections upon request.

  • Assign subject headings, complete book records, and recommend new titles for recording.

This role requires access to sensitive and confidential information. Candidates must complete required training, follow all policies, and comply with state and federal regulations regarding the safeguarding of confidential data during and after employment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience: Not required.

  • Substitutions: None.

Working Conditions

  • Primary work setting: Office/Library environment.
