Job Summary:
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking a Librarian (Correctional Facility) in Monterey County. Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction, this role applies library science principles to operate correctional facility libraries with limited staff. The librarian supports inmate education, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into the community.
Key Responsibilities:

Manage library operations in a correctional facility.

Provide reference, research, and information services to inmates and staff.

Apply library science theories, philosophies, and best practices.

Promote educational and rehabilitative programs.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library Science or bachelor’s degree plus one year of accredited graduate study.

Evidence of completed education required prior to appointment.

Unofficial transcripts/diploma must be submitted with the application.
Special Requirements:

Background check, Live Scan fingerprinting, and TB testing for new CDCR employees.

COVID-19 vaccination may be required unless exempted for medical or religious reasons.

Foreign degrees require U.S. equivalency verification.

Salary range: $5,649 – $7,800/month
