Overview:

Escambia County is seeking a skilled Library Professional to oversee various library operations and activities. This role may serve as a Children’s Librarian, Reference Librarian, Audio-Visual Librarian, Circulation Librarian, or Cataloger. The position involves planning, coordinating, and supervising staff work while following established library policies. The librarian will exercise independent judgment and innovative approaches to daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons with inquiries via phone or in person.

  • Teach patrons to use catalogs, indexes, microfilm readers, and other library resources.

  • Conduct story hours and educational programs for children.

  • Review, select, and catalog library materials.

  • Prepare bibliographies, reading lists, and public announcements for media.

  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate staff.

  • Train and instruct employees on proper procedures.

  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and ensure operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Library Information Science, Information Science, or Science in Information from an ALA-accredited institution.

  • Valid driver’s license and any additional certifications required by law or regulation for assigned duties.

County-Wide Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with the public, co-workers, officials, and individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Emergency Duties:

  • Serve as an emergency service worker during disasters or emergency situations and perform assigned duties as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light physical activity including reaching, standing, walking, lifting up to 20 pounds, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
