Job Duties

Provide quality library services for incarcerated individuals.

Maintain an organized and up-to-date Media Resource Center.

Teach library skills and literacy programs.
-
Select, acquire, and organize library materials.
Minimum Qualifications

Eligible for a Virginia Teaching License (Library Media Pre K-12) with a Bachelor’s degree, OR

Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MSLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.

Eligible for a Librarian’s license through the Library of Virginia.

Experience in library policies, procedures, and managing a public or educational library.

Working knowledge of general library practices, acquisitions, and supervising library staff.

Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MSLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS).

Possess a Librarian’s license through the Library of Virginia.

Experience managing libraries in correctional or alternative settings.
-
Virginia Department of Education Teacher’s License (Media Services).
-
Knowledge and ability to supervise staff and interact with inmates.
