About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the LaSS (Language & Speech Science) Library, which supports staff, students, and researchers in the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences and the UCL Ear Institute.
As a Library Assistant, you’ll be a key member of the customer-facing team providing day-to-day support across a wide range of services—from managing physical resources to supporting the use of digital platforms and maintaining a welcoming environment.
Note: This role requires manual handling; full training will be provided.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality customer service in person and via digital platforms.

Assist with issuing, returning, and shelving library materials.

Support the use of electronic resources and library technologies.

Promote library services and news through social media and online tools.

Carry out clerical tasks such as record-keeping, data entry, and handling user queries.

Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the library environment.

Contribute to health & safety and building management tasks.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is:
Essential:
-
Experienced in a frontline customer service role, ideally in a library or academic environment.

Digitally confident using Microsoft Office and web-based systems.

Proactive and able to use initiative to solve basic problems.

A team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred:
-
Familiar with library catalogues or resource management systems.

Confident managing social media or digital promotion tools.

Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:18 PM

FTE: 0.6 (21.9 hours per week)
This is an on-campus role and is not suitable for remote working.
