The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) oversees and coordinates services for individuals across the state living with developmental disabilities. This includes support for people with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other neurological conditions.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will provide critical hands-on care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Duties include:

  • Monitoring individuals’ health status and observing reactions to medications or therapies.

  • Identifying symptoms or condition changes and reporting findings to a physician or registered nurse.

  • Recording vital signs using standard medical equipment.

  • Administering injectable medications, and managing G-tube and J-tube feedings and changes.

  • Performing catheterization, tracheostomy care, and deep suctioning.

  • Assisting with specimen collection for lab testing.

  • Maintaining accurate charts and documentation of care provided.

  • Managing medication and medical supply inventories.

  • Performing direct care duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Option A: Hold a current New York State license and registration as a Practical Nurse.

  • Option B: Possess a limited permit to practice as a Practical Nurse in New York State.

  • Option C: Have an active application for a limited permit filed with New York State (must be filed immediately after graduation from an approved nursing program).

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.

  • Must pass a background check and meet all facility security requirements.


Salary & Compensation

  • Base Salary: $45,081 (CSEA Grade 10)

  • Geographic Pay Differential: $4,000

  • Increased Hiring Rate: $5,852

  • Total Starting Compensation: $54,933

  • Job Rate: $55,322 (with geographic differential included)
