Job Details
The University of Texas Charter School is seeking a Life Skills Special Education Teacher for its Dallas campus located inside Nexus Children’s Hospital. This is a non-traditional classroom setting serving students receiving inpatient and rehabilitative services for complex medical conditions, autism/developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and other neurological diagnoses.
As part of the UT Charter School System, you will join a team dedicated to student growth, trauma-informed teaching, and individualized education plans (IEPs). This position follows state and federal regulations for public schools and participates in the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment program.
Responsibilities

Create a supportive classroom environment that fosters physical, social, and emotional development.

Implement instructional strategies, materials, and interventions for diverse learners (ESL, GT, at-risk, etc.).

Deliver instruction aligned with TEKS, UT-UCS curriculum, and student IEP/504 accommodations.

Maintain open communication with principals, staff, parents, and students.

Manage student behavior in accordance with treatment plans and the Student Code of Conduct.

Assess student learning through formal and informal methods, using data to guide instruction.

Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development.
Required Qualifications

Valid Texas Special Education EC-12 certification and Core Subjects EC-6 certification.

Knowledge of TEKS, state curriculum standards, and instructional practices.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with students of varying needs in a non-traditional setting.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Fingerprinting required.
Preferred Qualifications

Texas ESL Supplement EC-12 and American Sign Language EC-12 certifications.

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience.
