Company Overview
The Bolthouse Farms journey began in 1915 in Grant, Michigan, when the Bolthouse family started cultivating vegetables. In 1938, William Herman Bolthouse took over the family farm and steered the business toward carrot production and distribution. By 1950, Bolthouse Farms had established itself as a leading carrot supplier throughout the Midwest, widely recognized for its exceptional flavor and quality.
To expand operations and enable year-round production, a second facility was opened in Bakersfield, California in 1973, allowing the company to reach broader markets across the country.
In the 1990s, Bolthouse Farms revolutionized the industry with a game-changing innovation. Seeking to reduce waste, a grower at Bolthouse Farms began peeling and cutting imperfect carrots into bite-sized pieces—thus, baby carrots were born. This simple yet powerful idea transformed the industry and inspired a surge in carrot consumption across the U.S., nearly doubling national carrot intake in the following decade.
