In this role, the Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging procedures using ionizing radiation to support accurate medical diagnoses. This position involves direct patient care and may require the administration of medications within the scope of practice and in accordance with state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiographic exams while maintaining quality standards.

  • Assess and monitor patient vital signs and condition as needed during procedures.

  • Critique images to ensure diagnostic quality and adherence to protocols.

  • Select appropriate film and exposure settings, including cinefluorography when applicable.

  • Adhere to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure.

  • Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department or technician.

  • Clean, prepare, and stock imaging rooms with necessary supplies.

  • Conduct limited radiologic procedures in accordance with department protocols.

  • May assist with the orientation of new staff and training of students.

  • Participate in departmental initiatives, in-service trainings, and hospital committees as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of radiation safety and imaging procedures.

  • Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care under the supervision of a radiologist or radiology practitioner.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Competency in troubleshooting and reporting technical equipment issues.

  • Independent decision-making regarding cassette size, exposure settings, and correction of imaging issues.

  • Capable of managing workload efficiently while remaining flexible to meet departmental needs and support physicians during exams.

Qualifications

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential (must be obtained within 30 days of hire through University of Utah Health RQI system).

  • Valid license as a Radiologic Practical Technologist in the State of Utah.

Additional licensure or certifications may be required based on department needs.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
