Job Summary
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is seeking a Locum Consultant Gynaecologist with a special interest in Two-Week Wait (2WW) cancer pathway management. This is a 12-month fixed-term position based primarily at St Michael’s Hospital, with one day per week at Weston General Hospital.
You will join a dynamic and friendly department of 40 Consultants and Associate Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, contributing to both outpatient and surgical gynaecological services, with a particular focus on timely cancer diagnostics and pathway coordination.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage 2WW gynaecology clinics and referral triage

Deliver general gynaecology outpatient clinics and elective surgical care

Provide operating lists at both St Michael’s and Weston General Hospitals

Act as lead coordinator for the 2WW diagnostic pathway

Participate in the non-resident (1 in 15) gynaecology-only on-call rota

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and timely patient care

Contribute to audit, clinical governance, and ongoing service improvement

Support teaching, training, and potentially research activity (if desired)
Essential Criteria

Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

Completion of RCOG Benign Gynaecology ATSM

Proven experience in general gynaecological surgery and minimal access techniques

Demonstrable experience in managing suspected gynaecological cancer referrals

Strong commitment to multidisciplinary team working and patient-centred care
Desirable Criteria

Additional ATSMs that complement current department services

Experience or interest in academic research or service development
